A true paradise for nature lovers and outdoors enthusiasts, the Upper Laurentians has many an unsuspected possibility waiting to be discovered. Bucolic landscapes, 4,500 lakes and rivers, three large reservoirs and two regional parks make it an ideal region for hunting and fishing. But it is also a vast playground for a wide variety of other sporting and cultural activities.
With 88 kilometers of paved cyclepath and 11 road circuits, cycle-touring is a terrific way to discover the local attractions. Mountain bikers will be eager to take a turn on the 30 kilometers of recently upgraded trails in the Montagne du Diable Regional Park. The second highest summit in the Laurentians provides wonderful views overlooking the nearby ranges and hikers on that trail can sleep over in a hut. From an eco-tourism holiday to a getaway on quad with a guide, the options are many and varied!
Canoeing, kayaking and tubing downriver are also on the list of activities that are in addition to the numerous cultural events. Music has a place of honor at the Festival Classique des Hautes-Laurentides, the Festival de la Rouge and the Fête Champêtre, while other events feature theater, comedy, the arts, acrobatics and regional history, like the brand new multi-sensory experience, Fresques de Nuit. So many activities that can be added to a stay in a tent on a secluded, private island, or a luxury residence in a holiday resort, a hotel, inn, rustic cottage, outfitters camp or even… a tree-house!
