A nature adventure in a Laurentian outfitter!

By Stéphane Gosselin from Expédition Faune

When Tourisme Laurentides asked me to stay at an outfitter in the Laurentians, I didn’t have to think twice. I have visited outfitters throughout Quebec for my TV show, Expédition Faune on TVA Sports, for nearly twenty years now. As part of this project, I was to stay at one of the many outfitters in the Laurentian region.

About the fishing

Navigating the lake by row boat or boat is fairly easy, with no danger in sight. The most popular species is largemouth and smallmouth bass. I’m told there is also a bit of walleye, pike, and brook trout. During my trip, we caught about twenty bass.

The lake is perfect for fishing as a family. No boat? No problem. Two pontoons and about ten four-stroke engine boats are available to rent.

If you have your own boat, you can fish on Grand or Petit Lac du Cerf, which are fairly close to Domaine du Lac Malloon. Note that boats must be washed before they can be launched.

About the cabins

The outfitter has nine cabins which vary in size, located on the very lakeshore with an adjoining dock. By the way, the docks are brand new. They are very well equipped: all the basic equipment is provided and, as for the rest, Mr. Vandal will tell you what you need to bring. If you prefer camping, there are also serviced and unserviced tenting and RV sites available.

It’s a very popular place in winter, too, a stone’s throw from ATV and snowmobile trails.  What’s more, the outfitter keeps four cabins open with electric heating and a fireplace.

With good value for money, Domaine du Lac Malloon is a wonderful place for a vacation with family or friends, easy to get to and not too far from the big cities, in the magnificent Laurentian landscape.

About Domaine du Lac Malloon

The Domaine du Lac Malloon outfitter is located in the small town of Lac-du-Cerf, so getting there is fairly straightforward and doesn’t involve any gravel roads. Three hours from Montreal or one hour from Gatineau, and you’re there. The outfitter has been in business since 1945 and will soon turn 75. Pierre Vandal, a retired flight attendant for Air Canada, bought it in 2016. It was love at first sight for Mr. Vandal! At 80 years old, Mr. Vandal is the heart and soul of the place. Never without a smile, he welcomes his guests as he would his friends.
