Discover wide-open spaces, get out for some fresh air, and spend quality time with friends or family! Here are our suggestions:
For beginners
To get started, biking on snow can seem daunting, but it’s a lot more accessible than it appears. Come and try it out on a flat, packed, easy trail and discover this growing sport. At Parc national d’Oka, the Balade trail is reserved solely for fatbiking and provides a safe playground. At Gai Luron cross-country ski centre in Saint-Jérôme, a 5-km trail awaits for a gentle initiation to the sport. Further north, Camping du Domaine Lausanne in Ivry-sur-le-Lac offers one-hour rentals to get started, as well as winter ready-to-camp rentals. Note that all offer rental services on site.
Where to go on a fatbike
Have your own equipment? For regular riders, the trails at the Abbaye d’Oka are fun and feature a variety of landscapes. Since last season, Parc de Bois de Belle-Rivière in Mirabel has offered a new trail that crosses the park. Parc du Domaine Vert in Mirabel, for its part, proposes a wide range of forest trails for all levels. Further north, the Morin-Heights network, spanning 30 km, is a veritable paradise for snow bikers. Head out to discover a network of narrow, winding trails accessible to all.
Guided tours
Get started and ride with more confidence when you opt for a guided fatbike tour with D-Tour. Your local guide awaits for a group or private lesson to initiate you to the beauty of this sport. The Fatbike Initiation offers a 60 to 90-minute ride according to your rhythm and skill level. The Fatbike Experience offers a 2-hour circuit with a guide to discover forest trails along the Rivière du Diable. Make your way through the landscape without having to worry about where to go.
Electric fatbiking
Summer electric bikes are increasing in popularity, so why not try it out in winter? In Sainte-Marguerite-du-Lac-Masson and in Morin-Heights, Echo Aloha has two separate rental locations. Further north, in Mont-Tremblant, Tremblant Activity Centre proposes a network of mountain forest trails and the P’tit Train du Nord, which winds its way through the region. Action Tremblant in La Conception invites you to try out an electric fatbike in a magical scenery with rentals lasting a few hours or the whole day.
P’tit Train du Nord and Parc du Corridor aérobique
Fatbikes are permitted on the P’tit Train du Nord trails and on the Parc du Corridor aérobique on certain conditions. On the P’tit Train du Nord, between Saint-Jérôme and Val-David, the trail is located on the walking corridor, so please note that riding in the middle of the trail and in the cross-country skiing tracks is prohibited. Between Saint-Faustin-Lac-Carré and Mont-Tremblant, the trail is also shared with walkers and skiers, so keep an eye out! Head to Espresso Sport in Sainte-Adèle to rent a fatbike. The Parc du Corridor aérobique is perfect for a first outing, spanning nearly 6 km in the municipality of Wentworth-Nord! The route is easy and mechanically maintained. At the Montfort building, in Wentworth-Nord, you can rent your own fatbike to start out on the right foot.
In the mountains
The view from the region’s mountains is endless on a fatbike outing! Parc du Mont-Loup Garou in Sainte-Adèle offers 15.4 km of trails for all levels with incredible viewpoints. What’s more, Centre de ski Belle Neige and Station de sports Mont Avalanche provide access to several kilometres of trails on two of the region’s incredible skiing mountains. Not to mention Parc régional de la Montagne du Diable, which proposes several circuits and the possibility of combining nights in a shelter on the mountain or in a nature cabin. Head out for adventure!
